Crown Metropol Melbourne 2008

Under the direction of Bates Smart

An ambitious project at the Crown complex, to design a 28 floor building and provide fit-out for 658 4 star rooms making it the largest hotel in the country.

Destined to complement the two existing hotels at the complex, this one was to be suited to a sophisticated leisure market. Although large in number the rooms have a boutique hotel feel, one of a residence. My involvement in the design team was to lead the room and typical floor designs which included a very long, ‘S’ shaped corridor. The client was extremely demanding with respect to budget and construction detail such that no aspect was left un-examined. Just one overlooked maintenance issue multiplied by 658 is a big problem after all.
