Jade Temple Sydney

A re-imagining of the 2014 Eat Drink Design Award winner, “Rockpool Est. 1989”.

Seeking a site for a new venture coincided with the decision to end the establishment’s 25 year run. With tight budget, heritage limitations and three week turn around, all stops were out to perform a little transformative magic.

Relaxed and eclectic, the Jade Temple decor is inspired by the heritage Burns Philp & Co. building in which it is located and the colonial past of some Asian cities that existed at about the time it was constructed. It is a western interpretation of traditional Chinese motifs and artworks, a melting pot of influences with intentionally mis-matched furniture.

Light fittings sourced from China add a touch of whimsy and elegance.Hand crafted custom designed bamboo table lamps and chandeliers tread the line between Chinese urban modernity and humble village origins.

There are also imaginings of a gracious host, a welcoming residence in a prosperous neighbourhood of Hong Kong perhaps.
